Working as part of the Package Search team, I support the delivery of high quality interface design that inspires and engages people looking for a holiday online.

I work together with other e-commerce disciplines, to design and ensure the implementation of complex, user-centric design solutions that align with customer expectiations and business objectives.

  • Contributing to and maintaining consistency in a design system
  • Supporting the roll-out of the TUI digital rebrand
  • Knowledge of accessible design principles and good practice (to WCAG standards)
  • Focus on conversion based solutions
  • Prototyping, research & optimisation

TUI Design System

An integral part of my role is involvement and contribution to the TUI Design System. Following appropriate governance processes and clear communication with relevant stakeholders, I have created and documented guidelines for over 12 globally aligned components.

Accessibility

One of my responsibilities is to design inclusively, with users who have disabilities or impairments in mind. Following guidelines set by WCAG and using tools such as MagentaA11y, I advocate for design solutions that aim to create web experiences all users can easily and enjoyably interact with. This involves defining requirements such as read order, tabbing order and roles, to support development teams in implementing designs that can be better navigated with assistive technologies.

Testing & Optimisation

Using prototyping and user testing methods, my designs are validated against customer needs and insights. I regularly use optimisation testing as a tool to iterate and improve solutions.

My work on redesigning and testing promotional messages and sales mechanics led to a significant increase in bookings on targeted units, with an overall positive uplift in promo code usage. This redefined how we communicate complex offers, considering the long-term implications of how they are scaled.

1WEB
πŸ’‘ Project case study

1WEB is an ongoing project that aims to align all TUI websites onto one global platform. There are currently separate sites serving customers in different markets, for different products. This project will deliver a one-stop shop site across all markets and products, whilst evolving the visual identity of the TUI brand to a more modern, playful look & feel.

Responsibilities
  • Generating ideas for how the Design System evolves
  • Collaboration across global teams & multiple stakeholders

The Problem
From a Design Experience point of view, multiple platforms across TUI’s operating markets has created a digital solution that is an inconsistent experience for users. In the current experience, a customer in Germany uses a site that looks and works differently to the UK site.

Each market uses multiple back-end systems to pull in APIs and content, so components can’t always be built and shared. However, market-specific customer and business requirements do need to be considered; the holiday market functions differently in each region. Buying a Package holiday is also a different experience to buying a Cruise or a Hotel holiday.

  • Fast paced delivery of high fidelity designs
  • Owning the feedback & iteration process

The Solution
Focusing on the searching experience, I delivered designs for a Search Panel that allows for flexible searching without constraining customers to specific search criteria early in their journey & a Search Results page with Filters and Cards that make comparison of products easy and efficient.

  • works agnostically to product and market
  • allows for the sharing and alignment of components, through a unified service layer
  • flexes and adapt to varying requirements
  • optimises features of the current user journey
  •

πŸ”ŽοΈ Project Spotlight : Search Results Cards

A key focus of the project was the re-design of the results card component that displays on the Search Results page. A historically out-dated and complex component, there were many problems and opportunities presented through customer insights and benchmarking.

  • Mobile-first approach
  • Reduce visual noise and clutter
  • Align across markets, products & platforms
  • Make the component more inspirational

The Re-designed Component

Key Features

One configureable card for all markets, products & platforms

This component will be rolled out as part of the global design system, which will be used by all teams. It serves as a one-size fits all component, that can be configured based on specific market or product needs. This will support the goal of achieving visual consistency across the TUI sites, meeting customer expectations.
